I’m going to completely revamp this blog. My question is, do I keep the old posts (some of them) or delete them?

I’m back at my training again. After suffering a minor injury and then quickly getting back to work, this blog sort of got away from me. Sorry about that!

I apologize for my absence! This weeks training has been right exhausting and I’ve barely made it to my bunk before collapsing from exhaustion!

I’ve done a few runs this week on top of training, since we’re so short on runners. Never far, and I’ve only picked up a few things here or there. And was only chased by a few zoms (Thanks Chris).

But to top it off I found this treasure while running. I thought I’d give it to Sam when he comes back next week. Figured the guy could use a good laugh.

Until next time! Runner 5 Out!…. For a nap!

To say that today was anything less than interesting would be an understatement. Of course, not many days are uneventful in a zombie apocalypse.

I was sent out to investigate the report of a child on the loose, a non-dead one. At least, they were pretty sure she was still human and wouldn’t turn. I was running along, almost to the child when I heard a noise. Sam confirmed what I was hearing without me needing to even turn around, someone else was nearing the child. I managed to get there first, scooped her up, and kept running as fast as I could per Sam’s urging.
I learned, however, that I had no need to fear the man on the motorbike behind me, he was the young girl’s father. His story was much like many others. He left to go get food, zoms attacked, his wife fled with the daughter, must’ve been bit, ran as far away from her daughter as she could so she wouldn’t end up eating her offspring, and when he returned he saw they were both gone. He set off after Molly (his daughter), and this is where we pick up again.
His bike ran out of fuel, so the three of us set off for his fuel dump. On the way he (his name is Ed) saw some people camping around his fuel dump, and as we approached the site, we noticed that they had left something behind.
A rocket launcher.
We picked up the fuel, the launcher, and took off running back to the bike. While Ed fueled the bike I ran around with Molly until he caught up with me. He took Molly and the supplies to Abel, but I was left to run on my own back to the Township. Once Janine saw the rocket launcher, she immediately took it to the armory, where it belongs.
Was this the same one that shot down my chopper? I wonder if there is any way to tell. If anyone can figure it out, I imagine they will try. While I have been welcomed to Abel happily, there is still distrust towards me. And I don’t blame them.
I’m Runner 5, and I’d really like to know what is going on around here.

Today was a rough one.

I started out with what was supposed to be some light training, and I was able to run outside of Able today. Today, however, I had company. Sam joined me on this run, and I was sure he was going to struggle, but he kept up really well. I guess having a little motivation helps. I never thought chasing after a radio handler would be what nearly killed me out here. I get that he and the old Runner 5, Alice, were very close, but he of all people should realize how dangerous it is to just take off suddenly without making sure the area is clear with the handler. And I’m not exactly an expert runner, nor am I familiar with the area, so to take off on me like that and make me chase him was foolish.
I guess can’t be too mad at him. I certainly understand loss, and the idea of holding on to the people we loved as best we can. I think we all do. It’s part of what separates us from the zoms outside. It’s what makes us human. And anyway, we made it back to the base without spotting a single zom, which was good, and we even brought back some unbroken bottles for storage. Things were going alright again. For the moment.
Just when I thought I was done for the day, I heard a commotion outside. The alarms were sounding, there was gunfire. I bolted out of the barracks just in time to be called to run as a diversion. Apparently the motors on the gates failed and they needed a few of us to run with noise makers to lure the zoms away, and Runner 8 was one of those few. I was a bit apprehensive about running with a noisemaker, but Runner 8 was fitted with a gun. This shouldn’t be so bad, right?
Wrong. That woman scares the shit out of me. I’d rather take my chances with the zoms on my own then ever go running with her again. At least, not until she realizes I’m not the enemy here. And I’d also be glad if she got rid of that stupid cough.
I shouldn’t be so harsh, I mean, I’d probably react the same way if a new runner randomly showed up under mysterious circumstances that I can’t even explain yet, but for God’s sake, she’s got it out for me, and she makes no secret of it. What was that quip? Oh yeah “Duck honey, wouldn’t want to shoot you by mistake!” Yeah, I bet Sara. I bet. I’m glad Sam lit in to her when she shut the radio off. The radio handlers are literally our only lifeline out here, and she cut him off just to give me the Spanish Inquisition. Not cool lady.
I must admit, while I didn’t appreciate getting shot at by New Canton, that was a pretty smart move taking us close to their base. It certainly kept those zoms distracted long enough for us to get home. Ah, I mean, back to the base. Is it too soon to start calling Able my home? I’ve only been here two weeks, but I’m already more comfortable here than I ever was at Mullens. Able is just more…homey. It’s nice.  And MOST of the people are nice and haven’t hinted that they could make my untimely demise look like an accident if I crossed lines or turned out to not be who I say I am. (I’m looking at you, Sara).

I’m Runner Number 5, and from now on I’d really appreciate it if I could just go running alone.

Today was a rough one.

Well I went out of Able again after a little training with Doc. Runner 7 and I didn’t go far, and we were able to talk about a few of the settlements surrounding us. Strange, what happened to those kids. I can understand the suspicion surrounding my arrival.

Didn’t pick up much, we mostly just found old relics and remains from before the city was completely deserted of living people. But I did get a newspaper, one of the last ones ever printed before the outbreak really took hold. Some of the pages were blood-smeared, but there was a curious article about a few fires in biology labs. Weren’t those guys working on finding a cure?

The crossword was also untouched, and Rajit was eyeing it. Maybe I can trade it for a few hot showers. He keeps begging me to reread his novel and give him feedback, but I’ve insisted that I’ve been far too busy. He seemed to buy that story, and offered me some clean sheets, which were much appreciated, considering supplies keep going missing. I bet those New Canton bastards have something to do with it.

Well, I think it’s time I try and negotiate this crossword for a shower. Even though I love crosswords myself, I think I love being cleaned with HOT water more.

I’m Runner 5, and I could really use a hot shower.

momentaryrefrain:

Week 2’s workout is great! But I swear those heel lifts will be the death of me! I finished the other half of the mission from Saturday and encountered one silly glitch of my song restarting after I paused and resumed, but that’s okay because I really enjoyed the song. I’m supposed to take the day off tomorrow from the 5k, but maybe I’ll replay mission 2 just because. Or maybe I won’t. We’ll see how sore I am from the heel lifts tomorrow. I am Runner 5, and it’s dinner time!…. I hope.

I actually left the compound today. I haven’t left since my first day here, since the crash, but I didn’t mind so much. I only encountered one slow shambler that I was literally able to outWALK. Plus, I beat the New Canton runner to some very valuable ammo and an AR, and Janine was so thrilled she gave me a jewel encrusted dagger….with some old blood on it. I didn’t ask, I’m sure the dagger will come in handy someday. Besides, Janine gave it to me and she seems very nice.

I guess I should get some sleep. I have tomorrow off from training but I heard that Rajit is doing a dramatic reading of his novel tonight and…well… I’ve READ the novel. Once was enough.

I’m Runner 5, and I’m off to bed before Rajit wrangles me in to listening to his….uh…novel.

The workout today was much easier! Doc says to take two days off this time, but I may go for a little walk or jog tomorrow or the days after just to keep in shape.

I met Runner 4 today! She seems nice, though it’s worth noting that pretending to be a Zombie and changing other runners tends to upset Sam a little (and with good reason). Same gave me the old Runner 5’s bag, which wasn’t necessary but appreciated (particularly the chocolate bars, I’ll have to save those!) I could tell it was hard for him, so I’m going to take good care of this bag and put it to good use in his, and her, honor.

Runner 5 out. Until next time!

I’ve made it to Able, though not in the manner I was intended, and I’ve begun my training. My feet are rather sore but I imagine I’ll get the hang of this. On my way in I managed to bring a very important file to the Doc, I’m hoping it helped me earn my keep here at Able. I don’t have anywhere else to go.
Sam managed to score me a hot shower (along with a book), I suppose I’d better get going before Rajit changes his mind and decides it’ll be a cold shower for me. I’ll update you after my next run, and perhaps you can help me solve a few of these mysteries….
